Description
Two bull’s heads, mirrored across the board. A custom design cut into end grain walnut and inlaid in zebrawood. This is the Boreal Series taken further — the architectural profile the series is known for, carried by a motif drawn specifically for this piece.
Boreal boards are built square-sided and thick. This Relief Edition adds a deeper underside chamfer for lift, and the dual bull’s head inlay across the surface. Walnut brings depth; zebrawood brings contrast through its banded golden-to-dark grain.
End grain construction is the reason serious kitchens buy these. Vertical fibres absorb the knife instead of resisting it — edges stay sharp, the surface self-heals, the board takes decades of real use. At 1.75″ thick, this is an end grain butcher block – built to sit on the counter and take real prep.
At 1.75 inches thick in walnut end grain, this is a full-weight end grain butcher block — the standard a working kitchen asks for. Butcher blocks are defined by the glue-up: thick hardwood, vertical grain, built to be used hard and resurfaced over decades. The Boreal Relief lands squarely in that definition, with a custom motif most butcher blocks never get.
One-off piece. The design is original to Northern Prairie Woodworks. When it sells, the next will be different.
