Description

A commission is the highest tier in the shop — a cutting board or butcher block built start-to-finish to your specifications. You pick the wood. You pick the size. You pick the inscription, if you want one. I’ll email you within 24 hours of your order to confirm details, then queue your piece in the shop.

How it works

1. Pick your size below. Small, Medium, or Large — pricing is locked at checkout.
2. Place your order. You’ll get an email confirming the build slot within 24 hours.
3. Tell me your wood + inscription. Reply to the confirmation email with your wood preference and any engraving copy.
4. I build. Up to 6 weeks for the build — often sooner, depending on the shop queue. Longer if engraving or rare wood is involved.
5. It ships tracked. Free Canada-wide shipping over $300. Lifetime care guarantee.

Wood species I work in

• Black walnut — deep brown with chocolate streaks, classic and rich
• Hard maple — pale, clean, the timeless workhorse
• Cherry — warms and deepens to russet over years
• Black limba (korina) — golden cream with dark streaks, rare and showy
• Canarywood — yellow-orange tropical, vivid figure
• Curly maple, ash, ambrosia maple, padauk, zebrawood, purple heart — ask if you want something rarer; I’ll quote.

Engraving / inscription

Up to two lines, your wording. Names, dates, “From the family, est. 1987,” a single word — anything that fits. Add $30 to any tier. Tell me at the confirmation stage.

Pricing

Pricing reflects materials and the time it takes to do this properly:

• Small (12×8″, 1¼″ thick) — $245 — end grain or edge grain, single or two-species
• Medium (16×10″, 1½″ thick) — $345 — heavier boards, three-species patterns possible
• Large (18×14″, 1¾″ thick) — $495 — full butcher-block grade, complex patterns, your design
• Something different? — Bigger, thicker, a butcher block, a specific pattern, or a wood I haven’t listed: tell me what you have in mind and I’ll quote it.

Sizes are general — within ±1″ either dimension at the same tier price. Thickness shown is typical; I’ll match the proportions to the piece. Bigger than 18×14″, thicker than 1¾″, or anything you don’t see → use the link above.

Timeline

Standard build: up to 6 weeks from confirmation, often sooner depending on the shop queue. Rush builds available — email if you need it faster. Engraving adds 1–2 weeks.

Materials and care

Every commission is finished with food-safe mineral oil and beeswax, and ships with a complimentary tin of Board Butter — my own conditioner blend, which is what I use on every piece I make.

Lifetime care guarantee: any board I make, I’ll re-oil and refinish on request. You ship it back, I make it right.
