Description
A cribbage board with storage — padauk on top, ash for the base, everything you need to play tucked inside. Built to live where it’s used: on the side table, by the chair, ready when the next round of cards comes out.
First, the build. I cut every cribbage board with storage from a solid padauk top and an ash base, then fit them with magnets so the board sits flush on the base when it’s not in play. Inside the base: a recessed peg tray, a card pocket sized for a standard deck, and a velvet drawstring bag for the pegs. As a result, the whole game lives in one piece of furniture rather than spreading itself across a drawer.
What makes a cribbage board with storage different
Most cribbage boards are loose pieces — board here, deck there, pegs scattered across the cabinet. Meanwhile, the magnetic-storage version keeps the whole game together. Because the base also has cork feet, it doesn’t slide. Most importantly, the padauk top deepens from bright orange to dark cherry over the years, so the board you see at year ten is darker, richer, and more itself than the one that arrived in the box.
How to play with it
Every set ships ready to use tonight. So when the box arrives, open the drawer and deal the first hand. Inside: six wooden pegs, a full deck of playing cards, and a soft velvet drawstring bag. The 120-point layout reads cleanly across the surface. Either way you score, the board lives on the table afterwards instead of going back in a closet.
Care, custom work, and shipping
First, wipe with a soft dry cloth after use. Second, avoid prolonged direct sunlight and standing moisture. Finally, a light coat of furniture wax once a year keeps the padauk deepening. Other woods built on request: walnut, maple, canarywood, Black Limba. Ships from Virden, Manitoba via Canada Post with tracking, typically arriving in 1–2 weeks across Canada and 2–3 weeks to the US.
