A Working Canadian Maker Studio

Northern Prairie Woodworks is a working studio dedicated to thoughtful design, careful process, and steady growth in wood.

Northern Prairie Woodworks

Northern Prairie Woodworks is where the work begins.

It’s where lumber is chosen for its grain and stability. Where boards are milled flat and square before a single joint is cut. Where ideas are tested against structure, not just aesthetics.

The studio develops pieces meant to be used — held, cut on, leaned against, lived with. Strength matters. Proportion matters. The way a piece feels in the hand matters.

GiftThis.ca serves as the product storefront, offering finished pieces that have been refined and production-tested. Northern Prairie Woodworks is the environment where those ideas are developed and expanded.

The direction is steady and long-term. The work is built to outlast trends and remain relevant through use.

The Studio Space

The studio operates in its first phase — a focused, small shop working environment built for discipline and precision.

Every tool has a place. Every surface serves a purpose. The scale is practical, allowing close attention to material and detail without distraction.

As the work grows, so will the space. A dedicated standalone shop is part of the studio’s next chapter, supporting larger builds, expanded storage, and commissioned furniture-scale projects.

Growth is intentional. The standard of work remains consistent.

Process & Method

Every piece moves through a defined progression:

Material Selection
Lumber is chosen carefully — for grain orientation, stability, and how it will age over time.

Milling & Preparation
Stock is flattened, squared, and stabilized before construction begins. Strong work starts with stable material.

Joinery & Structure
Forms are built for durability first. Clean lines follow solid construction.

Refinement
Edges are eased. Transitions are resolved. Proportions are adjusted until they feel balanced.

Finishing
Food-safe oils, wax blends, and protective finishes are applied with durability and maintenance in mind.

Documentation
The work is documented through written journal entries and filmed builds — not as performance, but as record.

Nothing is rushed. Nothing is added without reason.

Studio Direction

Northern Prairie Woodworks is structured for gradual expansion.

The studio continues to produce refined small-batch goods and maintain steady product lines through GiftThis.ca.

At the same time, the scope is widening to include:

• Furniture
• Wall-mounted statement pieces
• Residential commissions
• Select commercial collaborations

The move into a dedicated workshop is a planned step in that progression.

The work will grow in scale.
The approach will remain measured.

Journal & Film

The studio documents its development openly.

The Journal shares process decisions, lessons learned, and material considerations.

Film captures full builds and technical breakdowns as they unfold.

This is working documentation — not staged production.

Custom & Commissioned Work

Northern Prairie Woodworks accepts select custom inquiries.
